Isn't SCUBA Diving Just A Summer Sport In Massachusetts?
Well, that depends on you. For many area SCUBA divers, it is just too cold to dive in New England during the winter season. However, there is also a large number of divers that enjoy this sport all year round. With the proper equipment and training, SCUBA diving can be enjoyed during the winter months in New England.

During the winter months, many people have vacations planned to warmer climates. This way diving can still be enjoyed while on vacation in warmer waters.

How Long Does It Take To Get Certified?
Generally, about 20 to 23 course hours are needed to complete the whole certification process. This time includes about 5 hours of academic work, 6 hours of pool work, and 10 hours of practical experience on open water dives. Open water dives can be completed either in the Boston area during the summer diving season, or while on vacation during the off season.

In The Past, Boston Harbor Has Been Polluted. Is It Much Cleaner Now?
Yes, it is. Both the City of Boston and the state of Massachusetts have spent millions and millions of dollars over the past 15 years to clean the harbor. There is much more marine life in the harbor now than I have ever seen in the past. Harbor seals and porpoises are some marine mammals that now regularly visit the harbor during the winter months. In the past few years, I have even seen minky whales just a few hundred yards off Outer Brewster Island. Come and take a look; I think you'll be surprised.
